Dear Friends of the Library:

We greatly appreciate the loyal and generous support you have given your libraries over the last several years, particularly your response to the special fund drives to build the new libraries in Marlinton and Green Bank. This year we are raising money for much needed renovations to the Hillsboro facility. All of us are justly proud of having built the most modern rural library system in West Virginia.

But now we face a new challenge--raising the funds on an ongoing basis needed to keep the libraries operating. Newer, more spacious libraries with larger collections and better facilities provide better service, but cost more to operate as well. For the past two years we have been the recipient of special Federal grant monies through the generosity of the Pocahontas County Board of Education. We will receive this $50,000 per year again in 2003-2004, but then the grant will end. This time next year we will be facing a budget dilemma; we’re sure the Board of Education will support us as much as they can, but we can’t expect anywhere near $50,000. We’ll either have to make up the difference through increased support from you, the private citizens who love books and learning and support the libraries, or be forced to consider cutbacks in staffing and hours.

Fortunately, this dilemma is a year away--and you can help it disappear by increasing your level of giving this time around—–and by encouraging your friends and neighbors to join you in supporting your Pocahontas County Free Libraries.
