Green
Bank After School
programs
were
discontinued
this year inasmuch as application by Pocahontas Schools for funding through
21st
Century Community Learning Center grants was unsuccessful.
In
the previous three years many children were served four days a week after school
let out. The program was held at Green Bank
School.
The
school system with support from PCFL will be making application this spring,
2005, for funding after school programs for next
year.
Children
are welcome to be at Green Bank Library
anytime.
A number of children do visit the library after school is let out. Although our
librarians are unable to provide a structured program, they do assist children
in homework needs, encourage them to use their time well, and provide a safe
place indoors. Children, however, are the overall responsibility of their
parents. Since a program is not in place, children are not restrained from
coming or going to the library. Thus the librarians and libraries cannot assume
responsibility for children outside the
premises.
