PCFL is unique in offering various types of equipment for our patrons to check out and enjoy. Our initial collection was the result of a grant. This collection is currently under development and is designed to celebrate the diversity of the human experience. Materials include resources for teaching respect for cultural and racial differences; for developing civil discourse on controversial issues; for distinguishing compassionate religion from violent religion; for combating racism, anti-Semitism, hate ideologies and violent bigotry. This collection is housed at the McClintic Library.
The West Virginia Library Commission provides statewide databases to all libraries with funds from the West Virginia State Legislature and the Library Services and Technology Act administered by the Institute of Library and Museum Services. Info Depot is your gateway to numerous databases and vast amounts of authoritative information not typically found through search engines such as Google. Offers thousands of journal, magazine and newspaper titles with fully searchable full text articles covering a vast array of subjects in health, business, science, popular culture and more. Create an account and save your articles in your own research folders. Also provides information on how to cite the articles as sources for research papers.
Consumer Health Complete
A specialized database of health information, from full text online versions of medical books to short video clips of medical procedures. Search for symptoms, drug and herbal supplement information, and definitions of diseases and disorders.
Selected West Virginia Newspapers
This database contains archives of the Charleston Gazette, Charleston Daily Mail, Dominion Post (Morgantown) and the Herald-Dispatch (Huntington) plus several national news magazines.
Contains tens of millions of searchable newspaper pages, dating as far back as the 1700’s. Thousand of newspapers are included.
Learning Express Library
A leading source for test preparation materials and interactive practice exams based on official tests. Immediate scoring, answer explanations, and individualized analysis of results. You must sign up for the first time at your nearest library branch; after that, you are able to access this site from home. Includes practice for ACT, SAT, ASVAB, Civil Service exams, GED and more. Also has resources on job hunting and writing successful resumes.
Offers a wealth of information about novels. Search reviews, reading levels, topics of interest, genres and more. NoveList Plus K-8 focuses on children’s fiction.

A searchable topical database on current issues of debate, such as abortion, gun control, evolution and more. Information is pulled from newspapers, books, magazines and journals; both sides of the topic are presented and analyzed in a concise, non-biased format. Perfect for debate teams!
Groliers Online Encyclopedia
Offers searchable articles on a wide variety of topics; geared to either young readers or older readers. Also includes an excellent section for teachers or homeschooling parents on lesson plans and preparation. The World Newspaper features daily news from around the world; read newspapers from hundreds of foreign countries in either English or the native language.
Children’s DatabasesSearchasaurus and Kids Search are both designed to allow children to search children’s magazines and other resources. Searches can be through a Lexile Scale of reading level so children will end up with results in their reading level.
Housed at the McClintic Library, this group of books, videos, music and periodicals represents Appalachian culture and history and is one of the premier collections in the state.
Located in the Hillsboro Public Library, this collection of books focuses on a range of resources for both experienced farmers as well as hobbyists who tend a few animals or raise a specialty crop. Includes some general homesteading titles.
Extensive collection of materials, books, videos and archival documents pertaining to the logging era that spawned a major railroad industry during the first half of the 20th century in Pocahontas County and the surrounding region. Some materials may be circulated, others must be used in the library. The collection is the collaboration of experts with the financial support of the Hollowell Foundation and Cass Scenic Railroad. Materials are housed at the Green Bank Library and the McClintic Library, with a more general collection available at the Durbin Library.
