Dear Friends of the Library.

Like all the other branches of the Pocahontas County Free Libraries, the McClintic Library relies heavily upon volunteer support. Volunteers help in a number of ways which include: Staffing evening hours and times when the staff librarian must be away; assisting with book sales and other fundraisers; small repair and maintenance tasks at the library; organizing of the books; assisting with book and video title selection for collection development; evaluating community library needs; assisting with library fundraising campaigns; helping out with playgroup and summer reading programs; teaching computer classes and other skills workshops; being an adult literacy teacher; promoting the library at civic, church, and school gatherings; contacting government officials to advocate for a stronger library; serving on the local advisory board or county board of trustees.

GIVING to your library is crucial to its operations. Without a substantial donor base, the libraries in Pocahontas County would be drastically scaled down. Donations are absolutely crucial. Please give generously and often. A donation form may be printed out for your convenience, or contact your librarian to discuss a way that meets your special way of giving.

Giving can be approached in several different ways. Many donors give to the general county library fund, of which money is apportioned to the various branches for staff compensation, utility bills and building costs, books and other materials, equipment such as computers, and supplies.

In some cases donors wish to make a gift earmarked to a special category, such as the current building fund for Green Bank Library. Others wish to earmark to their library branch, usually for a special project such as furniture, a book or book series, a magazine subscription, or computer equipment. Many folks donate a gift in recognition of a special friend or family member, or a gift in memorial to a loved one who has passed away. The library is happy to place a special bookplate or other acknowledgement of a special gift.

The library often receives gifts of used books, audio books, or videos. Some of these materials meet our collection criteria and are entered in our system to be borrowed by our patrons. If books are not needed at this library or any of our other branches, they are placed with other books for the next book sale. Book sales generate funds, which are used by the local branch to purchase new materials

The Pocahontas County Free Libraries Board of Trustees administers all funds in order to meet the high standards of accountability for a public institution. Our records are subject to periodic state audits. These audit reports and financial summaries are available for public review upon request.
